The Move: Betting on Myself at the Heart of USA Cycling
The hum of a new city, the unfamiliar layout of a new apartment, the challenge of finding my new routine, these are the hallmarks of a big move. But this wasn’t just any move. This was a calculated, deliberate step onto the direct path toward my ultimate goal: the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. This past July, I packed my life into a few boxes, loaded my bikes, and bought a one-way ticket to Southern California.
For years, the dream of representing Team USA on the Olympic stage has fueled every pedal stroke, every grueling workout. As my performance evolved and my ambition grew, it became clear that to truly compete at the highest international level, I needed to immerse myself in an environment that pushed my limits daily. That environment is the Los Angeles Training Center, based in Carson, California.
Rolling onto the velodrome for that first training session was a surreal moment. This wasn't just another track; it was the where Olympic dreams will be forged and broken in four years’ time. Every pedal stroke felt heavier, more meaningful. I looked up at the iconic roof of the Velo Sports Center and knew I hadn't just moved to a new city. I had moved into the heart of my own ambition. The next four years of my life would be defined by the work I put in on these 250 meters of Siberian pine.
The transition hasn't been without its challenges. There's a new rhythm to life here, from navigating LA traffic to adjusting to a training schedule and expectations that demands peak performance every single day. But with every challenge comes an affirmation that I'm exactly where I need to be. The level of coaching, the state-of-the-art facilities, and the sheer talent of my teammates create an intensity that is unmatched. We push each other, learn from each other, and hold each other accountable.
This move marks the true beginning of my Olympic campaign. It's a massive commitment, financially, physically, and mentally. But standing on the podium in 2028, wearing the stars and stripes, will be the culmination of every sacrifice, every doubt overcome, and every mile ridden.
This is my "all-in" moment. Join me as I document every step of this incredible journey.
